Antimicrobial agents are substances which are synthesized in vitro. The mistaken error is to named both of antibiotics and antimicrobial agents with the same nomenclature.
All antibiotics are the products of microbial origin, but all anti-microbials are not the products of microbial origin.

An antibiotic is a compound, chemical or drug that is produced by a microorganism to inhibit or destroy another microorganism while an antimicrobial agent is a substance inclusive of antibiotics that kills or stops the growth of microorganisms.
Antimicrobials is a group of agents which include antibiotics, antiseptics and anti-fungal agents. Antibiotics are often derived from moulds or are made synthetically . Antiseptics on the other hand are substances that are able to reduce the possibility of infection. Disinfectants can destroy micro-organisms including bacteria on non-living objects . Antifungal agents are killing or inhibiting the growth of fungi
