Can someone explain the difference between vortex and eddies? I came across a text where it was mentioned that once fluid flows an obstacle, eddies are formed. Does that mean when there is no obstacle, there won't be eddies. The swirling of fluid when there are no obstacle, do we call this a vortex?

Also, do these terms have anything to do with type of fluid i.e. liquid and gas.
