It's said cyber-physical system comprises of computation, physical process, control and an interface. But, if we see control system has also the same parts. For, instance, a control system has computation part to control a physical process for which it needs to have an interface with it. Also, can an intelligent control system came under general category of cyber-physical system. Further, if a researcher has specialization in control system, can he apply that knowledge and works as cyber-physical system researcher?
Control systems engineering is a multidisplinary course. it can be applied to many fields. Its aim to develope best controllers for different systems of electrical, electronics, mechanical, economics, biological , chemical, robotics engineering etc. It may be applied to your system also.
Before looking to the engineering, the question is about the difference
between a control system and cyber-physical system: The set of control systems and the set of CPSs have got a (non-empty) intersection.
For this intersection the term control system defines the application perspective and the term CPSs defines the infrastructure perspective. Therefore the engineering approaches may complement each other.
Nevertheless there are controllers outside the set of CPS (e.g. centrifugal governor) and CPSs outside the set of control systems (e.g. car park display).
You can consider anything with an input and an output to be a control system with a plant in between. So cyber physical systems are subsets and becomes dynamic systems
Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems belong to Cyber Physical Systems. They use number of sensors as feedback elements, lot of software & communication tools and digital computers as controllers. Basically they are digital control systems where the controller is digital computer. Some applications of SCADA are
Electric power generation and distribution, Mass transit, Traffic control, space exploration, manufacturing processes, building facilities, State water utilities and many more.
