Hi,
I am developing a new assay, where I have to make some customized inserts to my culture plates. I want to make sure that these inserts will sink to the bottom of the wells, hence, I would like to know the density of my culture media.
I am using DMEM/F-12 GlutaMAX from Gibco. So far I have talked to their technical support without any luck.
Does anybody by chance know the density of DMEM media?

I can't directly answer your question, as I don't know the density off hand. You could easily measure the density to a sufficient approximation using a balance, though. Use a well-calibrated pipette to measure aliquots on the balance and determine the density that way - repeat this 10 or so times to get a good average. If you want to be more confident in your result, you can do the same process for deionized water, since that value is known.

Unfortunately media normally is characterized by its osmolarity rather than density. Of course it is the osmolarity that will affect the density, but I highly doubt that any manufacturer would be able to provide information regarding density. It is quite likely that you will need to determine it for yourself.

DMEM and other media density is strongly closer to 1 g/ml as a water. It is not so actual. If you did some modification of this medium You have to control its osmolarity (it have to be closer to 0.9% NaCl or PBS).
