Mortality rate or death rate is a measure of the number of deaths (in general, or due to a specific cause) in a particular population. What is the best way to predict the effect of a certain drug on the mortality rate?
I am not sure that I correctly understands you question. However,
LD stands for lethal dose and LD50 signifies the single dose needed to kill 50% of the animals used in the experiment. I remember that we read that when rats like their caretaker they are less inclined to die and I did not want to these kinds of tests because for me rats were real animals, not material.

I mean, certain drug may decrease or increase mortality rate
All drugs may increase survival, that is why they are invented in the first place. Poison increases mortality and bad interactions and wrong doses of drugs. If the side effects are greater than the benefits you do not give the drug.
