it is a transit process coupled with DNA repair. kinetic depends on the system you work with. as such, any readout for your DNA damage (e.g. amount of gamma H2AX by Western, or accumulation of pyrimidine dimers by IF or looking for telomere attrition by qFISH) will be inaccurate until you focus on specific type of DNA damage (ssb? dsb? oxydation? alkylation?) and consider specific type of DNA repair.
