I want to examine the relationship between an independent variable which is categorical and a dependent variable which is continuous.
e.g. The effect of learning style ( categorical variable ) on Intention (continuous). Which statistical analysis will be appropriate to examine the relationship?
First things first, I do not think that there is something like the best statistical approach to analyze data. There are procedures that can be applied because data meets the assumptions of these procedures but whether you want to use them or not is also a question of your research question (are you looking for co-occurence or cause of an effect), the way you think is most suitable to draw conclusions on considering inferences to the population level (bayesian or frequentistic) and many more.
From what I see, it looks to me like you might want to consider an ANOVA, however it depends on your hypotheses, your sample size and distribution, and the nature of your categorical variable (how many and what categories) if this approach is suitable.

If your dependent variable is normal use one way ANOVA otherwise you should use nonparametric KRUSKAL WALLIS test.
