Is it a appropriate tool to assess the learner style in the online platform or e-learning? If yes, how the interpretation/inference of the data collected through the questionnaire can be done for the analysis? whether the questionnaire, has to be used exactly as proposed or modifications can be done to match the study requirement?
Venisha Dmello this is a great question and troubling a number of stakeholders. Myself and other scholars have found the research supporting specific learning styles somewhat troubling. There are learning preferences and the methodological weakness of the questionnaire is that it will score preferences that are often attributed to learning styles. When tested against outcomes there does not seem to be robust differences. This does not mean there is no value, if students prefer to learn a particular way and you would like to accommodate, then it may connect to a more satisfactory experience but not necessarily to particular outcomes. I think it is appropriate since the Vark test assesses learning styles such as
Visual
Hearing
Reader-writer
Kinesthetic
This is useful to plan and develop learning strategies taking into account the antiquity of each subject in the academic program.
Wilmer Lopez from my perspective the Vark learning style Questionnaire does not seem to be a valid measure of a learning style construct. Alternatively, if it does measure a learning style construct it does not seem to actually impact learning effectiveness outcomes. This seems to be supported across a number of dependent variables. That being said I would never tell someone that wanted to put a lot of effort into their curriculum not to do it. But it is probably effort or self-efficacy that is producing any kind of outcome. Partner this with confirmation bias and it is easy to see why VARK still has so many advocates. If you are going to that much effort it would be more efficient to target higher levels of immediacy or other outcome-related variables. Venisha Dmello there are (e.g. VARK, Felder-Soloman’s Index of Learning Styles ) but neither has robust enough support that I could recommend them.
