What is the best percentage of methanol to use in the soxlet apparatus for seaweed extraction?

I wish to make seaweed extracts and evaluate their antifungal effectiveness against anthracnose disease in bananas. Is it okay to use methanol and hexane for extraction because I plan to utilise the extract on fruit peel as a coating? Also, what percentage of methanol is safe for extraction and will be used in food stuffs?
