Generally, viral samples, for example influenza sample, degrade after sometime during preservation for a long time. I want to know the method or technique, besides cDNA technique, to preserve it without any degradation .
as it is an RNA virus, RNA can be stored at -80 for long time..... if u have the serum suspected to contain Influenza u can keep the serum at -20..though RNA will degrade spontaneously... this is the best available one....... and importantly avoid repeated freeze thaw
We usually make a lot of aliquots of viral samples and store them at -80C, so that we can minimize the freeze-thaw cycle. Freeze-thawing samples usually compromise sample integrity in viral cultures.
