I’m looking for the best available expression system that can produce fish protein. The downstream application of the recombinant protein is functional analysis , enzyme activity assay, crystallisation for conformation analysis and PTM.

it depends a lot from the nature of the protein. in the past i was involevd in production of some proteins of moritella viscosa and e.coli works well but those proteins were soluble proteins with out cysteines and we overcome the issue of rare codon by ordering a sintetic dna fragment with armonized codon usage. e.coli is it preferable if you would like to cristallize it because if you use a mammalian sistem as expi293 which is a very powerfull sistem derived from hek293 adapted to growth in suspension, probably you will obtain high yield but you can also acheive glycosilation which can make difficult the crystallization and to growth expi293 you need a shaker with co2 that unfortunatelly is not so common in all laboratories.
but again. it really depends from the kind of protein that you would like to produce .

Thank you for your input, I figured out that the mammalian exrpesion systems are the best for my protein, as I need the PTM to be fully expressed,
