What you mention in your introduction is part of the results of the behavior of a group of people organized within a society and that as a group, and through institutional regulations, respond in a certain way to the facts that have affected them in a way negative within society and that directly are not the guilty, but certain leaders and rulers.
In essence, I understand the Social Memory, as all that formal or informal compendium of facts of daily life in society that have affected in some sense certain social groups; either as beneficial or positive, as well as deleterious or negative.
In such a way that both the positive and negative effects of the social facts produced by the individuals that make it up are part of the Social Memory; and that in certain circumstances they can respond and protest in an organized way to improve a situation that affects them in a negative way, such as acclaim and disseminate among them, what benefits them and that should be maintained and strengthened.

We often identify ourselves with specific social groups and we tend to categorize ourselves with certain identities attached to such groups.
As a sub-discipline in history, social memory is a relatively new concept. In point of fact, historians have chosen this new perspectivization to explore various topics within history. As such, they focus on shared histories of social groups and their experiences in order to truly grasp how a social group views itself. By careful scrutinization of particular behavioral features associated with a specific social group, historians attain crucial knowledge and by combining them together they ascertain the group's social memory. Therefore, by investigating and interpreting a group's social memory, historians can often fathom out the emotions and societal factors underlying the impetus for the group's coalescence and social convergence.

The concept of social memory is frequently used by historians. According to Scot A. French social media explore the connection between social identity and historical memory.
Social memory can be considered a conceptual tool to trace the interrelations developed among the entities of social identity, historical memory, and humanistic collective memory. It should be considered as an irrational, non-strictly historical, approach to learn (from) history since it encounters less disciplined forms of memory such as culture, fiction, folklore, biographies, and regional traditions. Contrarily, disciplined historical methods are keeping track of important events past through archaeological findings, (pre)historic civilizations, documentaries, and social concerns. In my opinion social memory is currently reflecting and affecting the common ground between history and culture, through humanitarian norms and patterns. Exemplary, I note that even diversified theoretical approaches and viewpoints of similar research objectives are clearly unveiling the different background of social identities that are inherently prevailing from place to place, from time to time, and from culture to culture, at the historical timeline of the world history.
In the article under the same title, "What is social memory", French (1995) asserts that "Social memory is a concept used by historians and others to explore the connection between social identity and historical memory. It asks how and why diverse peoples come to think of themselves as members of a group with a shared." (p. 9).

Social memory is collective i. e. common experience of a society which may be joyous or sad. Social memories can be forwarded with time and hence history originates. S&T are also part of social memory and intellect.

I only know the German discussion of the term, but only superficially, the main place of discussion lies in sociology, for me a neighboring science. If I see it correctly, the concept of cultural, social or collective memory has only been dealt with in theory for a few decades, although the term is much older. I called you literature from the German Wikipedia article. The interpretation and extension of the term goes beyond Z. Baumann out.

Memory is the social genetics. The 'meme' of the modern society are in so far liquid as new combinations of memories are feasible. Education systems lag temporally behind this liquidity of the new social genetics.
