What is sabbatical leave and for what it can be used and what is payment from parent university?

Sabbatical leave is said to be having many different flavors such as full paid, half paid, 67% paid and also can be used for rest, doing some research activities at other universities or going to some other universities or industrial collaborators for teaching research and development. The Main theme is to learn new things from other universities and apply them in your on after joining back and also share your learnt things with other universities or institutes.
