I am currently working on chitosan nanoparticles synthesis by ionic gelation method. I dissolve chitosan in 1% acetic acid (to make a solution of 1mg/ml) Regarding that I have some queries:
What is the ideal pH for chitosan nanoparticle synthesis?
Can anyone please share a protocol for chitosan nanoparticles synthesis?
How to increase the yield (final amount in milligram) of synthesized chitosan nanoparticles?
Hi Nimish, I suggest you to check this discussion. https://www.researchgate.net/post/How_can_I_get_larger_quantity_of_chitosan_nanoparticles_using_ionotropic_gelation_method2
pH should be in the range of 6-7, which can be done by using NaOH solution. For higher yield and good size of chitosan nanoparticles sodium-TPP solution should be added very slowly and drop-wise and temperature should be in the range of 25 degree Celsius.
While synthesizing chitosan nanoparticles by ionic gelation method, is it necessary to maintain any specific pH (acidic/basic) of Sodium tripolyphosphate (STPP)? Is it ok to perform the chitosan nanoparticle synthesis at Room temperature in a fume hood OR 25 degree celcius temperature is necessary ?
NO, only Sodium TPP solution in distilled water is required (approx 2mg/ml). Chitosan nanoparticle at lower temperature will form small and uniform particles.
it is okay to prepare it at room temperature except in hot summer when temperature cross 40 degree.
