I am working on octacosanol (a long chain aliphatic alcohol). I wish to quantify it using UV VIS spectrophotometer. I searched but could not find any data about lambda max or absorption maxima of octacosanol. Need help regarding that.
It has no UV chromophore, being a simple, rather long, aliphatic alcohol. Infrared spectrometry could be used, as could proton NMR, or mass spectrometry, and perhaps gas chromatography. See Fig. 13 in this paper for an IR spectrum:

even though it has no UV chromophore, it might have a lamda max somewhere in low wavelength UV region (around 210 nm).
the UV vis can be used to find the lamda max. Just start at 210 and see if you get a curve. If not try going lower and see if you can find the lamda max experimentally.
If that doesnt work then follow Shapiro’s suggestions for different instrument.
