This would be interesting as a pure question. This question will shed the lights to many related areas of technical worlds and non-technical ones. However I think that AI would aquire the legal personality in the near future. Then the arguments on this question and problems involved are inevitable. In a sense, of course, this question includes the eternal question: what is love?
As per my experience with science I saw everything we have achieved yet is a control simulation in a control experimental setting that actual rise so many question on validity and accuracy of all that we have achieved yet and how about all the advancement is just a friction of whole show a friction of a mega entropy that bring order from unorder? artificial intelligence is again categorized as controlled simulation ? how can it bring personalities even if we do so it would again be controlled settings with finite range of possibilities and what about emotions and real time interactions ? I wonder when we can't define infinity then how can we ever replicate the infinite nature and intricacies of real world scenarios?
Love, as a concept, involves empathy, support, and companionship. AI can emulate these qualities through programmed responses and personalized interactions. However, AI lacks genuine emotions and consciousness. Ethical considerations are crucial in AI development to ensure responsible behavior and respect for human rights and autonomy. As AI technology advances, questions about its role in society and its interactions with humans become increasingly important.
Great question, important ethical concept for Artificial Intelligence.
Note carefully that is possible to differentiate between non-human "Artificial Intelligence" (AI) and "Artificial Human Intelligence" depending on how "Intelligence" is operationally declared and defined.
When one considers that Love is a human attribute the logical conclusion is that non-human artificial (mechanical) intelligence will never be capable of exhibiting true human "Love".
In my opinion the best approximation and mimicry of human love that could ever be hard-wired into a machine designed to behave as if it had "human intelligence" (hence artificial) would be if Isaac Asimov's Three Laws were incorporated, as originally conceptualized, into the "intelligent Machine" in order to allow it to attempt to exhibit human Love as an attribute.
This is not a simple mathematical question that can be answered by a stepwise systematic and logical process. Discussion of Asimov's three laws is equally at home in a lecture on Ethics, Logic, Humanity, or Robotics, not to mention Law (as you have noted). Many humans (not very many thank goodness) do not even follow Asimov's three laws. I agree with Asimov that interactions between and among humans have much more benevolent outcomes when those three laws are prioritized.
A serious discussion regarding machine intelligence arises regarding Legal definitions of criminal versus non-criminal behaviors of both humans AND machines. If a machine commits murder, who is held legally responsible? The machine? The owner of the machine? The designer of the machine?
Discussions of these questions really get interesting when the machine is classified as "Artificially Intelligent". Not a simple answer at all.
Is it the tool, the maker, or the user of the tool that is ultimately responsible for the production outcome of the tool? It is my opinion that all three can be held consequentially accountable, for good or evil, intentional or un-intentional results from the tool. Asimov's three laws favor good outcomes for robotic tools, but do not guarantee them.
Human factors present as root causes insure that there will eventually be failures of machine intelligence that result in preventable catastrophic adverse events. Human or machine behavior that violates any or all of the three laws would favor likelihood of an adverse event that could have been prevented by not violating them in the first place.
This discussion needs to take place in any society where there is interaction between humans and robotic machines that are classified as "Artificially Intelligent".

I very much doubt that AI will legally be recognized as a person. Currently, most if not all AI systems answer by adding the most probable word to the words that the answer currently has. The result will simulate an intelligent or empathic answer, but only because the AI has been trained on a huge number of texts. It is not really intelligent and not really empathic. Therefore, the only concept of love it could ever reproduce is a statistical evaluation of the texts it has been trained with.
But, of course, someone may come up with a completely superior AI concept in the near future and the question may arise again. The computing power of current super computers is no doubt sufficiently powerful for a true AI.
In the near future, I shall answer this question by myself and give a reply to the present answers of contributors. I could not respond the answers, because I was extremely busy. I am sorry. June 23, 2024
I shall give my definition of love: that is, Love is about staying involved with the object of your love. In Japanese, that is, '愛とは、愛する対象と関わり続けること。' . I emphasize that this definition is very universal and widely applicable , and is not religious. In the present day, a different category of thing appeared. That is an artificial intelligence, AI. The present guidance for AI ethics do not contain the concept of love at all. I think that love should be seriously considered in this line as I defined, and love itself and the things related to love should be adopted more and more for AI ethics.
