The knowledge gap in tourism research refers to the discrepancy between the current understanding of a specific aspect of tourism and the knowledge that is still required to address unanswered questions or unresolved issues in the field. This disparity can arise due to several reasons such as limited or incomplete research, changes in the tourism environment, and lack of collaboration between researchers and tourism industry practitioners.
One of the primary reasons for the knowledge gap is the limited number of studies conducted on a particular topic due to a lack of interest or resources. Additionally, incomplete or insufficient research can also contribute to the knowledge gap, particularly if the methodology used is not comprehensive or the sample size is too small to draw definitive conclusions. Moreover, the constant evolution of the tourism industry, including the emergence of new technologies and trends, can create new gaps in existing knowledge.
The lack of collaboration between researchers and tourism industry practitioners is also a contributing factor to the knowledge gap. Collaboration between these groups can help identify research gaps and ensure that research is relevant and useful to the industry.
Identifying and addressing knowledge gaps in tourism research is crucial as it can lead to the development of new theories, models, and frameworks that can inform policy and practice in the tourism industry. By filling these knowledge gaps, researchers can provide valuable insights to industry practitioners, policymakers, and other stakeholders, leading to a more sustainable and successful tourism industry.
There are so many of them, you just have to find the right one for your research. A good starting point is reading different papers, just to get the idea. And think of something that you are interested in. For example, I have a paper (Conference Paper FIFA WORLD CUP ECONOMICS
) that I wrote just because I like this. An if you open it and look at the year, you will also understand it better.
