Insulin receptor mRNA levels are reported to be higher in the cerebellum compared to the peripheral tissues most often studied for insulin resistance: the liver, skeletal muscle, and adipose tissue. Additionally, the aorta, a tissue rich in endothelial cells, has higher levels of IR mRNA compared to all these other tissues (peripheral tissues: liver, skeletal muscle and adipose tissue).
Could this be a case of multiple organ cross talk - Cerebral-peripheral - heart cross talk?
