I am using ansys workbench R19.3 now, while, I can only find a explicit dynamics component in it as a complete analysis unit, autodyne is just a solver, and I cannot find ls-dyna.
What is the difference and especially relation among them? I really confused with it. In most condition, I cannot find a paper using explicit dynamics, and many people use ls-dyna simulate something instead.
"Explicit Dynamics" is just the name of the module in ANSYS Workbench. In the module you can do your pre-processing as well as the post-processing. However the solver is very much the core of the solution.
In order to use the LS-DYNA solver in ANSYS Workbench you need the ANSYS LS-DYNA license. Since you probably don't have the license you can't select the different solver.
Judging from my experience the capabilities as well as material models of autodyn are quite limited compared to LS-DYNA. This is probably the reason why there are so few papers utilizing it.
However cost is probably a reason too, since ANSYS licenses are quite pricey while LS-DYNA is pretty cheap by itself.
You could also just get a LS-DYNA license from DYNAMORE. That way you could solve using LS-DYNA. LS-PREPOST is free and can be used for pre- and post-processing. However I find it quite cumbersome to use.
TL;DR:
LS-DYNA has way more features and is cheaper, which is why most people use it.

1) For me, only autodyn can be used, how can I simulate the same content in other people's papers? I mean, not only solver, sometimes even the GUI would be different.

I'm glad I could clear some things up for you.
That follow-up question is pretty tough. Even if you set your simulations up perfectly identical you will get different results with the solver.
I can offer you a few things you should look into for explicit simulations:
1) How the timestep is calculated
2) Mass scaling
3) Element stiffness as well as hourglassing
4) Contact formulations (e.g. penalty contact)
5) Energy conservation or lack therof
6) How material models work

if you have ansys R19 you can use both solvers just click on the ACT start page on the workbench and download the ls-dyna extension then you will have both solvers on the workbench. for explicit dynamics the autodyn is the default solver used while if you want ls-dyna you have to choose it first.

I have Ansys Workbench R19 and I loaded the LSDYNA from ACT extensions. However, I do not know how to choose LSDYNA as a solver for explicit dynamics.
Can you explain more that how can I change the default solver autodyn with the ls-dyna?

when you drag workbench ls dyna into the project schematic then the default slover used is ls-dyna. but if you want to use the ls-dyna user interface from the begining you will find it inside the setup folder of ansys R19

I am currently about to begin a hypervelocity impact project with Autodyn.
I have never used it before and finding it difficult to find any resources.
My question is...to begin with do you just downlead the explicit dynamics workbench and select the autodyn solver from there?

Hi,
if you have the license for it you should see an explicit dynamics module on the left side of your ansys workbench. It's hard to find any good resources for autodyn, but I'd recommend you start with the autodyn user manual. For any additional theory I think any book on explicit FEM should help you to get a grasp on the concepts and numerical issues involved with the method.

I have been trying to get used to Autodyn. If I would like to use the SPH solver, it doesn't offer me the "parts Wizard" option. Does this mean I have to create a geometry in a separate application and import it?

If that is the case you could also make a "geometry" system and model your part there and link it to your solver. If that doesn't work I have to admit I don't have any other ideas because I haven't used Autodyn in a long time. Best of Luck to you!
I do not know which is better, but as far as I know for ballistic impact involving the bullet of 5.56mm and 7.62 mm calibre, most of the papers in prominent journals use ls-dyna as the tool.
