Thanks Arun for your response. I mean, in future, the effluent from industries should be first treated in the industrial premises and later reused in useful purposes. If so there would be no need for disposal into river. This way pollutant load over river would be reduced. In addition, the common grey water effluent from domestic and commercial establishments should be treated in the same way and the treated water should be reused for useful purposes. This way we can save fresh water storage and solve the waste water disposal problem. Most critical part is the treatment of common septic sewage, which should be fully treated and the liquid as well as sludge management scheme should be developed. As far as current situation is concerned, ganga water is highly polluted, so different adsorbent/ chemical dose, once tested in laboratory, would reveal about status of quality parameters and heavy metal uptake from water. Hope you would comment on my views and respond.
Most important and need decontaminant is change in the mindset of society for environmental concern and conservation of river water, people participation in management action plans, and increase in scientific temperament using science communication

Water is dynamic resource. Therefore it is very difficult maintain community awareness about quantity avialble for the user. This awareness is called Volumetric Impression. However this is not so staionary resources such as Lands. Following article is a prposal to create that Volumetric Impression.

As far as my understanding of the system is concerned, I feel forceful execution of policies for management of catchment waste and effluents and mass awareness campaigns is the only solution to clean up #Sacred Ganga and other water bodies. The sources of almost all the rivers are still pristine and clean. If downstream is managed, we will see Ganga and other rivers reverberating again with purity within a short period of time.
