SACRIFICE IS THE HEART OF LEADERSHIP
There is a common misperception among people who aren’t leaders that leadership is all about the position, perks, and power that comes from rising in an organization. Many today wants to climb up the corporate ladder because they believe that freedom, power and wealth are the prizes waiting at the top.
The life of a leader can look glamorous to people on the outside, but the reality is that leadership requires sacrifices – “A leader must give up, going up.” – John C. Maxwell.
In recent years, we’ve observed more than our share of leaders who used and abused their organization for their personal benefits – and the resulting corporate scandal that come because of their greed and selfishness. “The heart of good leadership is sacrifice.”
If you desire to become the best leader you can be, then you need to be willing to make sacrifices in order to lead well. If that is your desire, then here are some things you need to know about the law of sacrifice:
1. There is no success without sacrifice – Every person who has achieved any success in life has made sacrifice to do so. Many working people dedicate four or more years and pay millions of naira to attend school to get the tools they’ll need before embarking on their career. Athletes sacrifice countless hours in the gym and on the practice field preparing themselves to perform at a high level. Parents give up much of their free time and sacrifice their resources in order to do a good job raising their children. From the other side of life from the once early mentioned, some experience hard time, hustling on the street for years to get to the top likes of Robert T. Kiyosaki, Bill Gates and even myself.
Philosopher – poet, Ralph Waldo Emerson observed, “For everything you have missed, you have gained something else, and for everything you gain, you lose something.”
‘Life is a series of trades, one thing for another.” Leaders must give up, going up. That’s the true of every leader regardless of profession. Talk to leaders, and you will find that they have made repeated sacrifices.
Effective leaders sacrifice much that is good in order to dedicate them to what is best. That’s the way the law of sacrifice works.
2. Leaders are often asked to give up more than others.
The hearts of leadership is putting others ahead of you. It’s doing what is best for the team. For the reason, I believe that leaders have to give up their rights...

Dear Colleagues,
Good Day,
Please, see this type of Sacrifice:
"Japan pensioners volunteer to tackle nuclear crisis, By Roland Buerk
BBC News, Tokyo, 31 May 2011.
A group of more than 200 Japanese pensioners are volunteering to tackle the nuclear crisis at the Fukushima power station.
The Skilled Veterans Corps, as they call themselves, is made up of retired engineers and other professionals, all over the age of 60.
They say they should be facing the dangers of radiation, not the young. It was while watching the television news that Yasuteru Yamada decided it was time for his generation to stand up. No longer could he be just an observer of the struggle to stabilise the Fukushima nuclear plant. The retired engineer is reporting back for duty at the age of 72, and he is organising a team of pensioners to go with him. Volunteering to take the place of younger workers at the power station is not brave, Mr Yamada says, but logical. "I am 72 and on average I probably have 13 to 15 years left to live," he says."Even if I were exposed to radiation, cancer could take 20 or 30 years or longer to develop. Therefore us older ones have less chance of getting cancer." Mr Yamada is lobbying the government hard for his volunteers to be allowed into the power station. The government has expressed gratitude for the offer but is cautious. Certainly a couple of MPs are supporting Mr Yamada. "At this moment I can say that I am talking with many key government and Tepco people. But I am sorry I can't say any more at this moment. It is on the way but it is a very, very sensitive issue politically," he said. Certainly it is likely more workers will be needed. The plant is still spewing radiation, nearly three months after an earthquake and tsunami knocked out its cooling systems, triggering explosions. Its operator, Tepco, has now confirmed three of the reactors probably suffered meltdowns. The plan is to bring the plant to a cold shutdown by January, although some experts believe that is over optimistic. ".....

A sacrifice is the act of giving up something valuable to us in order to help another person. It is usually done for the sake of a better cause. As Parents, we often sacrifice time and sleep to take care of our children.
Origin of the word 'Sacrifice':
The word 'sacrifice' comes from two Latin roots, sacer, meaning 'sacred', and facere, meaning 'to make' or 'to do'. So sacrifice would mean, 'to make sacred' in this context.
The word 'sacred' probably comes from the Proto-Indo-European (PIE) word *sacros, which means 'holy' (the * means that the word is a recreated one). Cognates for this PIE word also include the Latin sacerdos 'priest' and the Tocharian B word sakre- 'happy'.

Dear Hazim Hashim Tahir,
Sacrifice - People who suffered or died from something.
In case if a person or a whole society not to be greedy, and never takes more than he needs, in the sacrifices necessary, it does not have.
Regards,Shafagat
Sacrifice involves foregoing one's own interest in favour of another person or a cause. Most people have allegiance to certain cause/s; so they may sacrifice for the sake of these. But I believe, most people make sacrifice for one's family members in some or the other way.
I often have sacrificed for some good friends, and often for my family members.
Dear Colleagues,
Good Day,
“Sometimes when you sacrifice something precious, you're not really losing it. You're just passing it on to someone else.”
― Mitch Albom, The Five People You Meet in Heaven
The act of giving up something that you want to keep especially in order to get or do something else or to help someone. The value in a sacrifice isn’t in the losing. Think about it: when in life do you equate value and loss? Value is always associated with gain. An act of slaughtering an animal or person or surrendering a possession as an offering to a deity. “They offer sacrifices to the spirits"
Large number of leaders of the national movement sacrificed their personal life for the national interests.
Offer or kill as a religious sacrifice.
"The goat was sacrificed at the shrine"
Give up (something valued) for the sake of other considerations.
"Working hard doesn't mean sacrificing your social life"
An act of killing a person or animal in a religious ceremony as an offering to please a God.
Sacrifice is our basic nature .It will reflect kindness, sympathetic, love, feelings ,sentiments & such other related areas .It is the not the question of belief word '' SACRIFICE''.
The word does not mean showman ship & also not for exhibition showing our action to other people .The word is important our action comes from the within where also divinity joins with us it is this light we should believe .
This is my personal opinion
Sacrifice, it the great thing. But no real life can not consist only of the great things!
Sacrifice is an act of love.
Sacrifice is a natural byproduct of loving deeply. We see it often in our everyday life when parents sacrifice their time and energy for their children.
" To be a good father and mother requires that the parents defer many of their own needs and desires in favor of the needs of their children. As a consequence of this sacrifice, conscientious parents develop a nobility of character and learn to put into practice the selfless truths taught by the Savior Himself.
- James E. Faust
''There's only one effectively redemptive sacrifice, the sacrifice of self-will to make room for the knowledge of God.''
-Aldous Huxley
“Sometimes when you sacrifice something precious, you're not really losing it. You're just passing it on to someone else.”
Dear Hazim:
I think that, in the terms that you have raised, "sacrifice" means giving up voluntarily to our own good for the good of others --individuals, group or community. In other sense, we can also make a sacrifice today for our own good tomorrow.
Dear Mr Tahir ,
I really can't answer things like "sacrifices" , very very frankly , I guess not.
I believe in it but do not practice. I will not hurt others but sacrifices is tooooooo much . I work for my community (tutoring kids , playing with toddlers etc etc...) . When I worked for my students and helped my friends (& foes) !!!
I ardently believe in Iraqi quote , my head is important ...
Fortunately , I am surrounded with people who tolerate me and I am thankful for the sacrifices they have made for me ( time & love).
What is a sacrifice? Do you believe in it?
To me sacrifice is an act of love i.e. if we really love someones, we will sacrifice or give away something precious of our own e.g. efforts, times, monies, teachings, corrections etc. for the benefits of the loved ones.
I shall cite one real example. While Mahatma Gandhi was meeting some people, mother-son duo came in. Mother requested Gandhiji to ask her son to avoid sweet. Gandhiji paused and advised her to come after a month. Mother dissatisfied, came back after a month. Gandhiji then advised her son to avoid eating sweet. On mother's insistence, Gandhiji explained that he had to quit first to ask others. He knows how difficult it would be for a person to shun dear/loving things. Thus a sacrifice.
I do believe in sacrifice for our beloved fellowmen.
If my son needs my hearth, for sure, i will give it to him.
Horace, in Odes III.2.13, states: "Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori."
There are many perspectives from which to view the sacrifice. It can be taken as a ritual, an offering that makes a divine being. Or it can be seen as a human act of renunciation, of abnegation. The first assessment would be part of the anthropological reflection or, where applicable, of the valuation and mystical perspective of everyone. From the second I can speak personally: if I stay in the sacrifice as something spontaneous renunciation of one's own interests and desires, I can say that there is an attitude of surrender to nearby people who may fall into this category: my children, my partners at the time, close friends. But never to the degree of immolation or put at risk of my own survival, because it has not been necessary. Altruism towards those who feel close and whom I value can certainly be a measure of the love I have for them and, I guess, love can be measured by the attitude of delivery, another contribution to the detriment of oneself.
Sacrifice is made for oneself, for one's own children, or for all the humans.
"Follow your passion, be prepared to work hard and sacrifice, and, above all, don't let anyone limit your dreams." — Donovan Bailey
"To be a good father and mother requires that the parents defer many of their own needs and desires in favor of the needs of their children. As a consequence of this sacrifice, conscientious parents develop a nobility of character and learn to put into practice the selfless truths taught by the Savior Himself." — James E. Faust

Dear Colleagues,
Good Day,
"Abraham's Sacrifice
What is the truth about Abraham's Sacrifice? Who was the sacrifice for? Who was the dream that Abraham had from? Before going into the details of this subject, the reader is requested to put aside all his/her preconceptions about this issue and verify the subject purely on the merit of the Quranic evidence.
First
We read in Sura 37 how Abraham had a dream in which he saw himself slaughtering his son (Ismail). However, there is nothing in the Quran that says that the dream was from God:
Sura 37
[37:102] Then when he was old enough to work with him, he said, "My son, I see in a dream that I am slaughtering you, so take a look, what do you see?" He said, "O my father, do what you are commanded to do. You will find me, God willing, patient."
[37:103] Then when they both submitted and he placed his forehead on the ground.
[37:104] We called him, "O Abraham,
[37:105] you have believed the dream?" Thus, We surely reward the good doers.
[37:106] This was an exacting test.
[37:107] We made a concession for him in place of a great slaughter.
[37:108] And We preserved his history for those who followed.
[37:109] Peace be upon Abraham.
[37:110] We thus reward the good doers.
[37:111] He was one of Our believing servants.
Second
It is decreed very clearly in the Quran that killing an innocent believing soul is a great sin:
"No believer shall kill another believer, unless it is an accident.... " 4:92
"And the one who kills a believer intentionally, his penalty is Hell, wherein he forever remains. God is unhappy with him, has cursed him, and has prepared for him a severe punishment. " 4:93"....

Dear Colleagues,
Good Day,
"Question: "Why did God command Abraham to sacrifice Isaac?"
Answer: Abraham had obeyed God many times in his walk with Him, but no test could have been more severe than the one in Genesis 22. God commanded, “Take your son, your only son, Isaac, whom you love, and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering” (Genesis 22:2a).
This was an astounding command because Isaac was the son of promise. God had promised several times that from Abraham’s own body would come a nation as multitudinous as the stars in heaven (Genesis 12:2–3; 15:4–5). Later, Abraham was specifically told that the promise would be through Isaac (Genesis 21:12).
How did Abraham respond to God’s command to sacrifice Isaac? With immediate obedience; early the next morning, Abraham started on his journey with two servants, a donkey and his beloved son Isaac, with firewood for the offering. His unquestioning obedience to God’s confusing command gave God the glory He deserves and is an example to us of how to glorify God. When we obey as Abraham did, trusting that God’s plan is best, we exalt His attributes and praise Him. Abraham’s obedience in the face of this crushing command extolled God’s sovereign love, His trustworthiness, and His goodness, and it provided an example for us to follow. His faith in the God he had come to know and love placed Abraham in the pantheon of faithful heroes in Hebrews 11.
Abraham’s faith was such that, even if he had sacrificed Isaac, he believed the Lord would keep His word and raise Isaac from the dead (Hebrews 11:17–19). God uses Abraham’s faith as an example of the type of faith required for salvation. Genesis 15:6 says, “Abram believed the LORD, and he credited it to him as righteousness.” This truth is the basis of the Christian faith, as reiterated in Romans 4:3 and James 2:23. The righteousness that was credited to Abraham is the same righteousness credited to us when we receive by faith the sacrifice God provided for our sins—Jesus Christ. “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God” (2 Corinthians 5:21).
The Old Testament story of Abraham is the basis of the New Testament teaching of the atonement, the sacrificial offering of the Lord Jesus on the cross for the sin of mankind. Jesus said, many centuries later, “Your father Abraham rejoiced at the thought of seeing my day; he saw it and was glad” (John 8:56). The following are some of the parallels between the two biblical accounts:
• “Take your son, your only son, Isaac” (v. 2); “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son…” (John 3:16)."

How Much Should You Sacrifice in the Name of Love?
The Meaning of Sacrifice
I don’t know about you, but when I think of the word sacrifice I don’t exactly get a warm and fuzzy feeling. For me, a sacrifice typically means that there is about to be some pain involved, whether it be emotional or physical. By definition a sacrifice is giving up something you want to keep in order to have something else or help someone else.
So what do people do it? Why do we live in a world where sacrificing is something people where like a badge of honor? Well, it’s usually because we think that going through the pain will result in something good. But does it? And even is it does, is it worth it?
Sometimes it’s necessary, and undoubtedly worth it. How many of us can say that our own mother’s sacrificed so much so we can be who we are today? I know I’ve said that many times, and I wouldn’t change a thing about those declarations. Indeed, my mother made many sacrifices on our behalf, and I am eternally grateful to her for it. No surprise there, though. After all, she’s my mom. But, are all those sacrifices necessary in romantic relationships?
Do You Need to Make Sacrifices When You Are in Love?
So how much have I sacrificed in the almost seven years that I’ve been married? Not much to be honest. I’m not a huge fan of sacrificing. Does that make me selfish? I don’t think so. Although I may come up short in some areas, I am a great wife and mom. I have no doubt about that. But I also believe that I make choices that rarely leave me feeling like I am sacrificing much.
If I could be honest with you, my biggest sacrifice has been sleep. It’s the one thing I truly love and want that I am willing to go without so I can do things with and for my family. Aside from that, everything else just feels like part of the package. I don’t really feel like I sacrifice much to make things work for my family. I think I have to make choices all the time, but because I am clear on what I value and what matters, the final choice never really feels like I sacrificed anything. It just feels like I made the right choice—the choice that sits well with my soul.
Ultimately, it’s all about perspective and mindset. Sure, I can look at things differently, but what good would that do? Is it helpful to think of spending time with my husband instead of a night out with my girlfriends as a sacrifice? I don’t think so. I enjoy time with my husband, and I can find another time to chill with my friends. In my opinion calling it a sacrifice makes it seem like I’d much rather be with my girlfriends than with my man, but that isn’t true. I value time with all of them, just in different ways.
Why Compromise is Better
Am I suggesting that things always go my way and I never give anything up? Not at all. I’d be a liar if I said that. However, instead of looking at the things I give up as a sacrifice, I think of it as a compromise. I don’t think you have to sacrifice to have a happy marriage, but I do believe a happy marriage is impossible without compromise.
I’m sure you may be wonder, what’s the big difference, really? When sacrifice is involved it typically means that someone loses, but with compromise, however, both parties should feel at peace with the outcome. Even if it’s not ideal, it’s better than a loss. Compromising can leave you feeling like even though you didn’t get exactly what you wanted, you got some of it and you are cool with that. Or, it can even leave you feeling like you just have to wait a bit to get exactly what you want. Much better than a sacrifice, wouldn’t you say?
Should You Ever Sacrifice in the Name of Love
Despite my strong affection for compromising, I do believe there are times when youmust sacrifice in the name of love. During challenging times—particularly when they come unexpectedly—you have to be prepared to make the sacrifice. If your spouse becomes ill, you may have to give up on a few things you wanted. If someone loses a job, sacrifices must be made so you can survive and thrive.
Maybe it would be nice to live in a world where sacrifice is never necessary—where everyone can always be happy with the outcome—but that just isn’t realistic. Although I firmly believe that sacrifice should not feel like a way of life when you are with the one you love, I also believe that the willingness to sacrifice when it truly matters is what makes a relationship strong. It’s what makes a relationship last.

"This Photo Went Viral Before But The Story Behind It Will Surely Move You To Tears
This is actually an old photo way back in 2013 who goes viral wherein a poor farmer in Thailand poses with his son who newly graduated in college. This touching photo captioned: “A poor farmer supported his son to complete his graduation; My father is my biggest pride said the son. How many likes does this great father deserve?” gained more than 100,000 likes, comments and shares by Cambodians and foreigners on Facebook.
The story behind this photo was simply amazing, a Reddit user said that the father was a poor farmer whose wife died soon after giving birth to her son. The farmer sold all his belongings to pay for an education for his son. Eventually through the father’s perseverance his beloved son graduated at Ratchpatr University in Chiang Rai (far northern Thailand). This is remarkable because the graduate is Hmong from Thailand (Nan Province จ.นาน) who are poor, marginalized Hill tribesmen who don’t often finish school. But despite that fact this proud father still manage to give his son a chance of becoming something in life.
A symbol of a father’s sacrifice to give his son a chance of becoming something in life."....

Dear all
God let us come to the world. Everyone has his/her duty, to be a good father or mother, to be a good doctor, to be a good teacher, to be good leader…
If we consider what we have to do our best to do as compulsory duties upon us, maybe we can act more voluntarily.
All of us have obligation to let the world become better and better. The contributions are incumbent duties not sacrifice.
Thank you for a thought-provoking topic.
I agree with the idea that good leadership involves sacrifice.
It is very easy to be tempted by the possibility of using power for one's own benefit. There are many people who give in to that temptation.
There are many who try to do good and face attacks from those in power and those with money.
Leaders may also have to sacrifice their reputation in order to fight for what is right.
As a parent, I know how much sacrifice it takes to raise children in a safe and secure environment.
It is a joy to watch my children grow up with more confidence and wisdom than I had at their age. This tells me I did a pretty good job...so far!

Hello Hazim,
I feel that maybe the question is not phrased the right why. I believe in love, not sacrifice. Through love one does many things, which on the outside might be defined as sacrifice, but from inside the motivation is “love” not sacrifice.

Sacrifice is an ART; By the way you should learn it how to realize what is SACRIFICE and how one can do SACRIFICE ! for himself and others !
Sacrifice is the highest form of humane quality, where one gives up one's most precious and choicest possession for the sake of larger good to humanity.
Dear Colleagues,
Good Day,
It is far more difficult to be simple than to be complicated; far more difficult to sacrifice skill and easy execution in the proper place, than to expand both indiscriminately.
---- John Ruskin
Sacrifice is a kind of altruism, responsibility, and duty. It may be done for the sake of others under extreme conditions. Harmony doesn't require any sacrifice.
Sacrifice is a word having very broad meaning in several ways.
Your question 'Do you sacrifice yourself for others, such as: son/ daughter/ wife/ family/ community/ society/ country and humanity?'
If you come to this point all parents are sacrificing their daughters to their in-laws house, (completely a new house and environment) after the marriage. Is it not a sacrifice!
Majority of people think sacrifice as mentioned by other friends 'give up (something valued) for the sake of other considerations' or you can quote several synonyms 'abandon, surrender, forgo, renounce, forfeit, relinquish, resign, abdicate, sign away, yield, cede, waive'.

These humble creatures were devoting their entire lives to a reality beyond their grasp. In days gone by they might have at least believed there was some purpose to their servitude. Now they no longer had any illusions. They were giving up their lives for nothing, and they knew it.Everyone knows that Japan has the highest suicide rate of any country in the world. What surprised me was that suicides were not more common."
---Amélie Nothomb
“Are you willing to self -sacrifice to achieve your goals?”
― Lailah Gifty Akita
"Today, the biggest challenge we must meet is the one we present to ourselves. To not become a nation that places entitlement ahead of accomplishment. To not become a country that places comfortable lies ahead of difficult truths. To not become a people that thinks so little of ourselves that we demand no sacrifice from each other."

Dear Colleagues,
Good Day,
Life is a song - sing it. Life is a game - play it. Life is a challenge - meet it. Life is a dream - realize it. Life is a sacrifice - offer it. Life is love - enjoy it.
---- Sai Baba
Sacrifice is when you take pains to go the extra mile. I believe in sacrifice.
Dear Mr. Tahir,
To me, the definition of sacrifice is how my parents gave up on their pleasure to provide a good living and education for me. And from them I've learned to sacrifice my happiness for people I love too.
Sincerely,
Cameen
Dear Colleagues,

No fine work can be done without concentration and self-sacrifice and toil and doubt.
----- Max Beerbohm
Dear Colleagues,
Good Day,
Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do.

Dear Colleagues,
Good Day,
Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable... Every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals.
----- Martin Luther King, Jr.
Dear Colleagues,
Good Day,
Instead of this fruitless debate about having it all, men and women should focus on what make us happy. Instead of comparing our lives with people we don't know who are making sacrifices we don't see, we should try to find the right balance between home and work life.
