For quite in majority cases if our personal life is cordial & happy our wife is in a real sense our companion so to say our friend, philosopher,& guide .
I do not known but it has been said that Marriages are born in heaven & in this line one has to admit that good & happy marriage is to be considered as a part of destiny .
Wife being our companion we share the same views same habits including reading ,music ,taste in fine arts & all such activities which we keep remain a within part of our happiness in our life .
In marriage i used to considered 1 + 1 is not equal to 2 but it is only 1 & in this light for quite good human beings wife remains a constant companion .
I merely add here that recently i have lost my half body & my daughter in beginning initial decided to remain with us & during my sad episode she has remain my companion & now helping me in my programming plan .
You asked indeed of choices so my best companion is mainly shaped by people with aestethical sensitivity and sense of humor both in daily life, family life, work, leisure and as authors of books. I gently avoid malcontents but this is not so easy.
With all my respects to your own person as your nearest society and the RG peers, I wish you at least one true companion. As to me, at home my wife is my best companion and I have some good friends over 36 years of history. Unfortunately, my colleagues have been engaged with Mr. Money/Mammon thus the working atmosphere is somehow wolfish.
Definitely (without any hesitation) I say family and relatives are the best companion for all times and occasions. In my case, I am a very lucky person to have most of my relatives living in close proximity to my house.
Some time ago, I would have answered the typical response: mother / father, friends, pets ... then also managed to include in that list myself. So, today, I can say that my best company, although it sounds corny, is the life because I find everything to be.
Thank you for inviting me to give an answer to your question. I hope you have been helpful.
My greatest friend is God. Who else has said more than once: "I will never leave you or forsake you"? In this life, I have good friends among many who believe in God and know this invisible creator and friend.
In my country, it is easy to make friends but it is NOT easy for me to single out one of my friends as a best friend. At schools or universities, here & abroad, I tried hard not to transform a business relationship into friendship so as "scientific" work is not affected in any way.
Since I became an adult, I realized that God is the best to take as a friend. He never let me down at any time & He gave me endowments that no human being can ever give.
It gives an avenue for a big research work I believe. The 'you' is an independent variable here. When I was in the UK, I used to observe old retired people with their pets esp dogs and cats walking in the park. With their kids moved away and no job, those pets were their companion and their motive to live.
In Nepal, however, old people of the same age find companionship in their grandchildren as they usually live in joint family; neighbors as they meet regularly in tea shop, unlike in UK where they meet in bars. (From my observation)
At present, RG has turned to be my best friend. As in my present life, I can communicate with a limited number of people.
When I reach to RG, I find diverse ideas, opinions and way of thinking. I see how people are taking the issues of health, environment, beliefs and political systems. The interaction elaborates the knowledge and experience of me.
I see that another fellows are also sensitive to the common issues like environment and society. It retraces me to let know that all we have some common goals, but different ways and opinions.
"Technology can be our best friend, and technology can also be the biggest party pooper of our lives. It interrupts our own story, interrupts our ability to have a thought or a daydream, to imagine something wonderful, because we're too busy bridging the walk from the cafeteria back to the office on the cell phone."
My family is placed at first place, for both daily life and leisure. Friends are specially considered for leisure time because in modern world they do not share usually daily life with you and thus pets could replace them usually.
Whether in everyday life or in leisure time , family and friends are always the best companion. But the additional company of a book makes moments more pleasurable and relate us with a kind of friendships that transcend space and time.
We are like minded as most of us have mentioned family and books. There is a saying "A friend in need, a friend indeed" and family members are the ones who always help us when we really need it.
Books are great companions as well, how can one be a RGer and does not love books!
"You know you’ve read a good book when you turn the last page and feel a little as if you have lost a friend,". ~Paul Sweeney
According to Dalai Lama Wisdom is the best guide and Faith is the best companion. Also Orison Swett Marden once said “You will always have to live with yourself, and it is to your best interest to see that you have good company - a clean, pure, straight, honest, upright, generous, magnanimous companion.”
