I'm currently slicing mouse brains that have been fixed in 4% paraformaldehyde (and embedded in agar) on the leica VT1200S. I've been having some issues with evenness of tissue in the slices and wanted to try and get better blades for the vibratome because the ones I'm using now are extremely cheap and, if not causing the problems with the tissue quality, definitely not helping. I still want to try and use disposable blades, but was wondering if anyone uses blades for this that aren't too expensive and that they like.
We use Persona Super Blades from the American Safety Razor Company in Verona, VA. They are double sided and have "Super" stamped onto them. They are not expensive and we switch them out frequently, as soon as we observe an imperfection in a few slices in a row. Hope this is helpful and best of luck with your projects.
