What is a good and suitable method for evaluation heat stress during the reproductive process in wheat crops in the middle east?
1- Sowing in different dates.
2- Treatments with different temperature levels in growth chamber.
1. To estimate starch and sugar content (starch and sucrose synthase enzyme activity) at pre and post anthesis stage bcz this the main energy source for developing anther and pollen grains.
2. To estimate Proline content, and some antioxidant enzymes.
Heat stress affects both vegetative growth to a certain extent and very drastically reproductive growth in plants. The following points are vital to assess reproductive efficiency of plants under heat stress.
1. Pollen viability test
2. Stigma receptivity
3. seed setting % in inflorescence.
Heat tolerant plants mange to reproduce better than the susceptible ones.

You can try to estimate affect of high temperature on the seeds before sowing. Treatments with different temperature on the seeds or pollen may give you data about level of tolerance. And you can after that choose tolerant plants for the breeding
Apart for physiological traits like CMS; CTD etc use HSI and reduction in TGW.
Canopy temperature measurement, membrane thermo-stability and starch and sucrose synthase activity could be useful measurable parameters in wheat
