I'm wrting an article, there are two terms "Carboxymethylcellulose" and "Critical Micelle Concentratio" both have the abbreviations of "CMC". How should i distinguish them?
If you are describing real micelles I'd suggest to use CMC (or cmc) for them because it is part of compendium of chemical terminology reported by IUPAC. However, if you are describing more generic amphiphilic aggregates you should use CAC (or cac) for them (Critical Aggregation Concentration).
In the first case, Authors describe Carboxymethylcellulose as Na-CMC or NaCMC or CMCNa or CMC-Na or carboxyMC or... CMC (uppercase) for cellulose and cmc (lowercase) for aggregates.
