Interesting idea, indeed.
I think there are some people who are willingly giving their power away, just not to think. As nicely described in 'Escape from freedom' by one of my favourite authors Erich Fromm. There are those who dare to think, and those who refuse to do that. I can only say that human nature is really hard to understand in many cases.
Michael, Milena, and Fouzia are to be commended for taking a moment and for adding their thoughts.
I take this thread a little further: Where do thoughts come from? When thoughts arise when they do, why do they? Can there be a metaphysical basis to thoughts, and, if so, how far can we explore it during our lives?

All that is dazzling --binary, conscious or unconsciuos -- is unreal, sheathed behind a series of veils imposed by Nature. When a stranger gazes back at you from your own looking glass or your photograph, you begin to qualify to juggle with these immensely importune and important issues - unreality in reality, finity in infinity. Since the unconsciousness Will, forever remains out of your grasp in this lifetime, the only part of the "binary" is conscious and that is unitary. The word "individual", composed of your own ego/"indivi" is intimately and inextricable linked with the "dual". All we are allowed is a glimpse of the composition of our "conscious" being. The "Way of Life" zen, Witter Bynner, 1965 (a translation of BC Chinese text), is a conscious effort to surpass the mundane, the commonplace, humdrum of existence. In daily life, the unconscious has no role--eating, drinking, copulation, giving birth, falling sick, and dying through programmed apopstasis.
We desperately want to or possess an "unconsciousness", an ESP, a third Eye, a "being" beyond being, an alleviation, a deshackingling from telluric bonds, from flesh and even spirit--and there is a way beyond. But it is purely conscious.
I congratulate you for a willingness to grapple with such elusive but never evanescent issues. Even the conscious is unreal.
The unconscious is rhe rhe push from the past and the pull from the future - Aldous Huxley (The Perennial Philosophy). The present is a conscious collision of the two.
