Looking for the answer by experts. I am starting a 28 day exposure experiment on shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei), I have to feed it 3 times a day, what food interval should I set for it?
feeding more frequently than this does not significantly improve growth and can lead to potential water quality issues; however, monitoring your shrimp's behavior and adjusting based on their feeding activity is key to optimal results.
Younger shrimp may benefit from slightly more frequent feeding compared to larger shrimp.
Feeding will depends on the objective of the experiment, size of pellets, size and number of shrimps.
Just to keep them alive once or twice per day will be preferable as suggested by @Omotosho lateefat. Feed has to be finished in two hours of feeding, if not means overfeeding is been done.
Feeding is a critical component of intensive shrimp aquaculture, accounting for approximately 60% of total production costs. For L. vannamei, the ideal feeding interval can vary depending on factors like age, size and culture system. Research findings suggeststhat optimal feeding frequency 6-8 times per day, with an ideal frequency of 7.83 times per day based on a quadratic regression equation of Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR).
