I think drastic measures to taken to curb the menace and strict punishment should given to anyone cut in that act because it has caused so many youth there lives.

All of the comments about the issue of bullying have merit.  I believe what Abdelfattah Alkhawaja wrote is key in everything.  I am not certain that the order of  the thoughts are as mine would be but they are spot on for all of humanity.  I will say that after interviewing a 13 year old female student who lived in an urban area about her home life, she shared that she watched her mother and aunt fist fight.  The need for parents to be involved in parenting issues should be number one.  Some parents don't believe in fighting and others do so as part of the bullying ideas as to what are they and how to define each part of the behavior is in second .... once there is a working definition there is something descriptive and understandable even if a person does not agree with it.

Let's hope that our communities will take the time to be part of the solution and help in the definition that is used.  We know what bullying looks like in our eyes, but what about the kid who's parents say it is okay to fight when you are wronged.  I know these are more questions about the idea.... but go back to paragraph one and reread.

Dear Cameen, with 64% students who have reported being bullied, bullying has become a major factor leading to dissatisfaction with govt schools.  When I was a teacher in secondary school, one of my duties was being a discipline teacher. Hardly a day without a student who comes crying that s/he was bullied.

Strict disciplines should be enforced in schools, besides, children have to be properly educated on this matter, and parents, teachers, as well as other school personnel should work together to curb school bullying.

I agree that family background has much influence. I also heard about how some kids view fighting and violence as a way of life from their experience of fighting or even abuse in the family. I heard that some of them didn't even know they were bullying others--like it's just a way to react to get what they want, or to displace their frustration or pent-up anger. Agreed with other scholars' comments before me.  Also want to add if possible each school should implement an effective whistle blowing program or policy if they have not done so.  Just like whistle blowing program in corporate / business organizations to handle sexual harassment / malpractices among employees / managers etc.  The whistle blowers can be students, teachers or even parents.  Earlier the whistle blowing / reporting, earlier the bullying incident / issue being spotted, looked into & tackled proactively by school's management, parents or even law enforcement agency etc. - prevention is always better than cure whereby sometimes the cure itself is not good enough to justify the lost of life.
