In your opinion, do you think this ranking applies to your country?
I fully agree with my colleague Vilemar Magalhaes because this ranking is relative based solely on an investigation. My personal opinion I will rank first medical sciences and pharmaceuticals and in second position everything related to the agri-food industry

Those rankings may not represent much and when one can take advantage from such studies are when it is considered one specific community in one specific time. I would not apply to another community nearby., Even among members of one category it can be not applied as a rule. The difference on financial capacity of the members of a professional group only may be as big as the number of professionals considered for analysis.

The identification of desired disciplines depends on the society, as they vary from country to country. In my country of Iraq, medical specialties of all kinds are desired by students and society.
Although studying the past can help them make wise decisions in the present, yet such surveys differs in each country. Generally speaking, the skills employers most want when they are deciding which new college graduates to hire are how well they can work as teamwork, make decisions, solve problems, .... So any major is important.

Regardless of where they occupy, all are important. Some have more prestige because of the difficulty in entering their academic and research fields, the number of graduates with higher professional education degrees, masters, doctorates and postdoctoral degrees. The most prestigious have large budgets and national and international awards in all fields of knowledge.
In the case of my country Mexico, in sciences, medicine and humanities, the best is the National Autonomous University of Mexico; and in science, engineering and technology, the National Polytechnic Institute.
I am utterly concur with Prof. Mahmoud Omid and other RG members that answer to this question. In my opinion, we can not tell that a special field such as PETROLEUM ENGINEERING is convenient for all people in the world, because If anyone lives in a country where there were not any petroleum-resources, Studying petroleum engineering can not be a good choice. Therefore, "any major is important" in specific places.

I agree with Professor Vilemar Magalhaes and Professor Fadel Djamel that the validity of this ranking is questionable; it should not be taken as a universal standard. The examples given by Dr. Isam Issa Omran and Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad have confirmed their views. I also agree with Professor Mahmoud Omid and professor Seyed Mehdi Mohammadizadeh that every major is important depending on what skills are in demand in each society, and as additionally pointed out by Dr.José Luis García Vigil, the prestige of the field of study also decides the importance of majors--as seen in Mexico.

I would not rely on such lists. One should study his own field of interest - such lists will change over time because society changes over time (maybe it could even be a good choice to avoid the top 5 of that list - because after the five years of study there will be different disciplines on top...).

The salaries and low unemployment are indicators of supply and demand, in light of the difficulty in obtaining the qualifications, but also some cyclical affects. In the past accounting was included in the top paid professions. Otherwise finding engineering categories in the top is not unusual, but also engineering offers some of the hardest study courses.

Demand of the course purely depends on the employment opportunities and requirement of the expertise for society needs. It may vary from country to country.
