Im looking for an ant species, easy to rear, that should be indigenous to the Philippines to avoid the risk of introducing an exotic species. Has anyone heard about commercially available breeding sets / colonies / formicidaria in SE Asia or the Philippines?
I suggest you can use Pachycondyla astuta or Odontomachus cf. kuroiwae if you need small nests. They are beautifull ants and easy to rear. They are commercially avaialable in Germany at least.
If you don`t have any experience in antkeeping you should avoid species which have special feeding preferences.
You should choose a specie of the genus Camponotus or Diacamma, also Pheidole and Aphaenogaster are easy to rear.

If you have chosen you can use google to find an asian shop. There are many offers from asian shops. Also many good commercial breeding sets made of plaster are available
Diacamma rugusom or Camponotus japonicus for example are easy to keep and native to the Philippines.
The two suggestions Pachycondyla astuta and Odontomachus kuroiwae from the post above are not known to the Philippines. And these are two species which aren`t easy rear except you have a larger colony and enough experience.
