I am studying an enzyme which shows activity all over the body but affects the hippocampus part of the brain in a different way. I am looking for a cell model which resembles the hippocampus so that I can study this specific effect.
Hi, perhaps you may also consider to investigate primary human (!) hippocampal tissue, if you have connections to the neurosurgeons and have received consent from the ethic committee: Occasionally, treatment-resistent epilepsy is treated surgically by resection of hippocampal tissue (if patients do not respond to conservative therapy). In theory this material may be made available for research questions.
Apart from that I have heard about a murine (not human) cell line, called HT22, which is derived from hippocampus and commercially available.
