Hello,

I have been looking at the literature and am struggling to find the mechanism(s) whereby mouse models of large intestinal inflammation and damage (e.g. colitis) induce a reduction in large intestine length. Can someone assist me with the explanation? A pathologist suggested to me it could be due to dehydration but I am wondering if there is more to it. Why do we not see a reduction in small intestine length if it is similarly inflamed in many of these models?

Many thanks,

Beth
