I challenge my students to put away their laptops in the classroom and use pencil/pen and paper instead. The laptop is often a distraction more than a learning tool. My experience is that this strategy improves both the attention, the learning process and the collaboration between the students. What are your views on studies that claim that writing by hand seem to engage the brain in a better way?
