I do like Cell, Nature, & Science. I find the discoveries to be amazing. But the experiments can be difficult to understand and difficult to replicate without the state of the art scientific instruments. So I have been frequently reading the volumes of Methods in Molecular Biology and Methods in Enzymology. The reason is because these journals give reproducible experiments with simple explanations.

I like open access journals like Nucleic Acids Research, Bioinformatics or Molecules. Also I like if journals offer "discussion forum" under published articles and direct link to Altmetric - I like to read twitter, facebook, reddit and other responses to the published research, it is often interesting and inspiring :-)
I find reading methodological based journals quite interesting and helpful, JOVE is one of my favourites. Also, i do like following researchers in my areas of interest on twitter, usually that gives you access to a whole lot more variety and let's you know what others are reading.
I used to read Nature and got it every week. Not know. I only was reading the short artcles ad the "news"
Now I only read the articles I need to read but not the journals istself. Nobody in my department reads "scientific journals" anymore. Just articles.
Anyways the question from "our " side is: which journal for which objective?
Depending on the objective (to learn?) I will recommend to have a look to youtube.
Yes I am only interested in the "things" I am interested related to my research.
Other "things" are news and there are many channels to get those. Perhaps similar to newspapers. I do not read now any on paper but I keep myself informed via web of the newspapers, TV (the right one) and social networks (Twiter mainly at least at this moment)

Name topics and techniques that you would like to know.
I am interested in X-ray crystallography for determining the crystal structures of proteins that I am studying for which the crystal structure is unknown and I am also interested in whole plant cell wall characterization through non-invasive methods. I also am quite fond of psychological research and how it influences identity and opportunity. I also am a fan of how physicists spend considerable amounts of time designing a new device to measure a variable that no one has ever quantified before. As a biochemist I don't really get the opportunity to do that because we find new uses for existing biochemical instruments. But I think if I was given the opportunity to do that then I would discover so much more. My interests don't really follow a linear trajectory. If am assigned to complete a certain project then I will put a lot of energy into it so that I can try my next new idea.
FOr X-ray crystallography I suggest -strongly- youtube. After watching 2-3 videos you will notice which is better and/or if you have to look for other videos. But perhaps you already know the basics.
The hard proteins to characterize are membrane proteins. Some GPCRs have been solved but they are not the real protein (what have been structurally solved are chimeric GPCRs; the real ones do not lead to crystals -yet-)
JOVE is another tool for sci videos but I think you have to pay and/or your institution must be paying the yearly fees.
About physics I was interested but not anymore in the papers but in the uses of biophysical techniques applied to Biochemistry; for instance FRET, BRET.... For the basics of these techniques you will also find good videos in Youtube.
Abour phsychological research I cannot be of any help (but I am interested in human behaviour and for this some humour programs on TV help me; e.g. one in which politicians from all parties appear and you, later on, have a hard time to distinguish between the real person and the actor/actress; for reference Polonia in catalonian TV (http://www.ccma.cat/tv3/alacarta/) Obiously the characters speak their "mother" language (Spanish or Catalan)

I usually go to the " Pubmed ", and find what interest me, then I read abstract ...If that is interesting then I go to the article. I dont care what journal it is as long as story is nicely written, scientifically correct and arouses scientific curiosity.
