I am going to carry on MIC testing studies with the following antibiotics at the described concentrations:
Vancomycin 2 mg/L
Erythromycin 2 mg/L
Metronidazole 2 mg/L
Clindamycin 16 mg/L
Moxifloxacin 4 mg/L
Rifampicin 0.004 mg/L
Does anyone know what should I dissolve them in? Water, ethanol, a 50/50 mix of both?
Data sheets are confusing and not very clear, as I find very mixed opinions.

Volume of solution ( Distilled water or 1 (M) Phosphate buffer solution ) =
Weight of powder (gm) x Potency of Powder (mg / gm) / Concentration ( mg /L)
Volume for Vancomycin = 0.5 X 0.06 / 2 = 0.015 L
Erythromycin = 0.5 X 0.02 / 2 = 0.01 L
Metronidazole = 0.5 X 0.015 / 2 = 0.00375 L
Rifampicin = 0.1 X 0.035 / 0.004 = 0.875 L
Moxifloxacin = 0.4 x 0.008 / 16 = 0.0002 L
Dear Lazaro, some of them is water insoluble, you cant use alcohol to test ( water insoluble, alcohol soluble antibiotics) in vitro or in vivo, so, in vitro alcohol possesses antibacterial activity and you cant confirm that the effect related to antibiotic only, and in vivo , alcohol cause CNS activity. If so you can dilute the antibiotics with dimethyl sulphoxide (DMSO), because DMSO uniformly distributed the antibiotic, and it is an inert substance, dont affected your results.
I believe Dr Ali Esmail Al-Snafi has give the appropriate recommendation.
Water is best. If not dissolving in water, DMSO.
