Currently I am working on Alzheimer's disease. In the literature i had noticed the staining of both Cresyl violet and H&E for histopathology studies. what are the things we can differentiate through different types mentioned stains.
It depneds of the thickness of your brain sections. If you are using thin paraffin sections (3-5µm) I would recommand H&E. Here you van see sometimes more details like prominent stained blood cells and plaques.
If you are working with thick sectons (PFA fixed in 30% sucrose cryoprotected 30 - 50µm or thicker) I would recommand CV because of the intensive background staining of H&E. I will send you some images so you can make up your mind
For more CNS histopath detail do KB luxol fast blue (LFB) it finishes with Cresyl violet as well, but will highlight myelin. It is an overnight stain and easy to do. However I would not use an oven to heat the LFB solution, I use a water bath its far safer! http://www.ihcworld.com/_protocols/special_stains/fast_blue.htm
