Technology is a major enabler of decision to serve the end users. Therefore, its fundamental role is in profiling both end users and generators of knowledge in order to personalize their needs. Moreover, it adds speed, accuracy, depth, and exactness. In the process, technology helps sort, categorize and synthesize knowledge according to defined needs.
Knowledge has now become the key resource for competitive advantage and is as much concerned with people as it is with information technology because information systems act like ‘stocks’ of encoded knowledge while people provide the ‘flow’ of knowledge from one another or to a knowledge database. Absolutely right, technology is a mean and the human factor is the value adding force. The higher is the flow of knowledge manifested by human interaction (expert-to-expert) the richer the flow and the more enriched is the resultant database(s). However, for such a process to lead to fruitful results necessitates planning and the commitment to adapt to rapid changes and consequently the motivation to continuously adopt the change. With time, this is how wisdom is developed in cultures.
