There are three basic methods, first is tail-cuff measurement using sphygmomanometer, second is by intra-arterial measurement by inserting a cannula needle in the artery, and the third is radio telemetry by which a radio transmitter is implanted in the artery. Tail-cuff method is the simplest method, and requires physiograph, pulse transducer, and rubber tubes. For the other two, surgical operation and sophisticated monitoring devices are required.
