I have been trying to synthesize PVDF thin film by solvent casting method. I started by using 2:3 DMSO: acetone as solvents. The solution was stirred for 3hrs at 60 deg and was dried at 90 degrees in the convection oven. I got uneven thickness for the films. Later on, I used only DMSO to prepare 2wt%,10wt% followed by similar preparation and drying. I am not able to synthesize a film of uniform thickness. Can anyone help me out? Thanks in advance.

Firstly, you should try to use a vacuum oven not conventional oven. The drying temperature should be optimised too.
Additionally you should make sure the solution you have should be homogenous before the drying stage.

To avoid that strong smell of DMSO you can use DMF. Before casting it please use a vortex.
