It should be a general lab for testing all types of alternative fuels i.e., solid, liquid, gases. It should test the calorific values, the emission control, the physical and chemical properties of alternative fuel. It should produce a comparison with fossil fuels. Please help what kind of testing and what kind of equipments are required..

The alternative fuel research laboratory is focused on the performance evaluation of internal combustion engines using alternative gaseous fuels and their mixtures. apparatus of calorific value,cdifferent types of analyser like CO, CO2, NOX etc. The effect of various operating parameters, such as fuel compositions, pressure, temperature, spark timing, on performance, efficiency and operational limits is investigated through experiment and analytical modeling and simulation techniques. Another area of interest is the investigation on the knock phenomena and cyclic variation while using alternatives fuels and their mixtures and modeling of these phenomena using high end software and detailed chemical kinetics.

Following experiment will be conducted in this laboratory to enhance the undergraduate teaching:

• Fuel combustion rate analysis using in-cylinder trace diagrams.

• Effect of various operating parameters in the fuel burning rate.

• Investigation of fuel composition effects.

Ongoing researches in the laboratory are:

• Landfill gas combustion in IC engines.

• Biogas combustion in IC engines.

• Knocking and its suppression.

• Chemical kinetic modeling and simulation.

• Natural gas combustion in IC engines.

• Hydrogen combustion as an additive or fuel for IC engines.
