If you have knowledge in allied fields, that makes your work easy and definitely helps.
I feel, protein science has many opportunities in Pharma/biotech sector, in biologics.
However, academia has a diferent angle. It is defined by the goals of the univ/dept and how well are you aligned or will be aligned with that. It is a struggle as we have a glut in the system as of now and many factors play a role in the hiring process
