The essential variables from past to presentfor an individual would be the exposion to parents' complexity- problems (fantesy, nostalgia & belief) that makes the child similar to a copy- machine of parents, to fulfil the sense of belonging, in a safe- heven. The next period would be the teenages, that outside- sense of independence and inner sense of vonariblity cause an openness to propaganda and diviation to skillful temptations. The multi-challenging adulthood to overcome financial issues, inner honors (identity), cultural pressures, in which creates a common ups & downs, and this is the moment that individual could loose the balance to unfamilure outsiders, and take a break behinde the Authoterian systems,or the muti-corruptions in internet- culture of invisiable control system.
Vernacular architecture heavy with local genius or local wisdom. There are many researchs on 'vernacular archtecture' aim to reveal the so called local genius in order to see the possibilities to be applied in the wider range of architecture including modern ones. E.g. orientation of building, use of local materials, handling of natural resources, etc.
Pre-20th Century vernacular was often adapting to the local environment and responding with available materials. The resulting architecture could then be seen as being distinctive to that place.
The 20th Century was about turning all that on its head. With rapidly changing technology and abundance of cheap energy, an "international" style of architecture could be utilised which "ignored" local conditions through the use of air conditioning and the like. The result was a bland style of architecture which could effectively be built anywhere.
The 21st Century could be a return back to the old ways. Energy is not as cheap as it was, and with the need to curb carbon emissions could demand an architecture which once again responds more sensitively to the local environment and utilises local materials (less carbon miles).
The positive side of a low energy/low carbon future may result once again in places of distinction.
Vernacular architecture is a kind of "ecological memory" of the place. It represents the capacity of the former inhabitants to adapt human needs to the environment specific. It is also a sort of 0 km architecture, adapting construction technologies and the building typologies to the local condition: the availability of construction materials, climate condition, social behaviour and economic opportunities.
Further we can empirically identify a kind of inner sustainability of the vernacular architecture even in the Life Cycle management of the built environment, applying policies of re-use and re-cycle to the technological components and to the construction materials.
There are some interesting examples of this in Southern Italy.
