I have encountered many organic reactions where I had taken 2 reactants in the molar ratio of 1:2, 1:1.5 etc but after a while TLC examination showed that the limiting reactant(which has been taken as 1 equivalent) is still present on the TLC plate even though a new spot is formed. What are the various ways to totally consume that reactant completely?

I have tried various ways to solve this issue like increasing the molar ratio by taking more no of equivalents of the other reactant, waiting for a longer period of time hoping for the reaction to complete and also heating the reaction.I have been successful using these strategies, but only very rarely.

Are there any other ways to address this issue?
