Hello everyone,
Could you please give me the most important differences between EFL (English as a Foreign Language), ESP (English for Specific Purposes) and EST (English for science and technology).
In fact, I do get the main difference which is the specialty of learners, but I need more details in terms of studied materials, tools, and especially the teaching mechanisms.
If you gave me consistent references, I would be really grateful.

English as a Foreign Language is English taught where there is not a surrounding population of people who speak the language being learned as a native language, i.e. allowing frequent opportunities outside the classroom to practice using the language.
English for Specific Purposes is English emphasizing the specialized vocabulary and circumstances used in a specific kind of setting. For example, Tourism English has many situations and words that a student must know, such as checking someone into a hotel, taking a restaurant order, etc.
English for Science and Technology also emphasizes the way the language is used in those settings, which often have a lot of specialized vocabulary, critical thinking requirements, presentation skills, etc. So EST is part of ESP.

EFL is taught/learnt as a second language and in this case students' diversity needs to be taken into consideration. ESP is very much related to specific discipline like English for Workplace Communication. EST/English for Science and Technology is very technical in nature in terms of scientific terms.

hi, English as foreign language is taught where the only source of input is classroom interaction. students learn English by pedagogic tasks designed for language teaching. ESP is teaching English to students of different fields like medicine or accounting with jargons and relevant reading passages.. English for science and technology is a kind of ESP. BEST
