In general, the microstructure of a thin film is different from the corresponding bulk material, the grains are in many cases smaller (nano-sized) and thus the density is smaller compared to the bulk. Typical values are in the order of several % reduction of the density - depending on the details of the actual depositions (i.e. deposition speed, vacuum conditions, substrate temperature during deposition or a subsequent annealing process, and others).
