The major disadvantage of the MAPbl3 is its low thermal stability at temperatures above the room temperature. So, one of the performance parameters for these cells is to the amount of the reduction the photoconversion deficiency PCE operated at 85 degree centigrade.
Such material operates very good at room temperature but degrades rapidly at 85 degree centigrade. This because the low activation energy of decomposing the molecules to MA cation and PbI3 anion.
There is a number of methods used to enhance the thermal stability of the this material. One of these methods is by adding to the material small organic molecules to lock the MA cation and increase their decomposition activation energy. Such small organic molecules will be attached to the surface of the grains passivating the grains and rendering them more robust against the temperature increase.
