Using greywater is potentially good to reduce water use in areas that suffer prolonged droughts, or do not have easy access to freshwater. However, greywater contains a lot of organic residues and these may develop bad odors if the graywater remains stagnant. For this reason greywater could be used immediately for irrigation purposes, rather than conservation in tanks. Constructed wetlands are an example of effective designs in ecological engineering to cleans the greywater and thus avoid pollution.
