- It really is a complex field, but such an important skill to hone. I've identified over 40 cultural competence assessments! But, many lack empirical support or focus too heavily on one particular culture, rather than a variety. I appreciate everyone's input and have looked into many of these suggestions. Thank you!!
Cultural competence is defined for our purposes as the attitudes, knowledge and skills necessary for providing quality care to diverse populations. There are numerous assessment tools available for evaluating cultural competence in clinical, training, and organizational settings. Particularly in counseling we measure cultural competence by tools i.e. Cross-Cultural Counseling Inventory, Cultural Self-Awareness Test, Development Communication Index.
