Neutron diffraction can't generally isolate single grains, but it can give a selective average of only the grains that have a given orientation. X-ray diffraction contrast tomography methods can see individual grains including strain, a bit like EBSD in three dimensions. Neutron diffraction has the advantage of working with bulk samples making it very easy to apply load while you do your measurements.
