Scientific conferences bring together different experiences together. you can update your scope of knowledge concerning the recent approaches in your field of study and widen your scope of colleagues.
Face to face discussion wit peers, socializing, meeting new friends and future colaborators, meeting different cultures, learning and acquiring the new knowledge in the field...
The most basic importance of a scientific conference consists in networking. The papers and presentations, of course, are crucial, but you can read them afterwards.
There were many similar or related research questions about the benefits of scientific conferences. There are fine inputs and resources, as well as different experiences...
Right, dear Ljubomir. Very often a number of questions are repeated or re-phrased here on RG. I am impressed by your memory and collection of data bases regarding the various posts here. Chapeau!
Many of the good points are listed above. I only add I enjoy visiting the new places with new cultures. This can be an addition benifit to those of technicals.
It’s very important to attend and participate in the conference, but more importantly, how to benefit from attendance and meeting with others to strengthen scientific capacity and discussion. I think this question previously posted on the RG site.
An excellent article : Academic conferencing for dummies!
The title of this post might sound harsh, but it’s exactly how I felt the first time I was at a scientific conference. I hadn’t prepared very well for attending this conference, because I was focused on presenting at this conference...
Nice reading about before, during and after the conference!
Very interesting question. Personally, i found scientific conferences more challenging than journal peer review. The conference will enable you have face-to-face discussion with experts in the filed who may add value to your work through criticism. I also think companies attend conference for new solutions rather than reading the journal.
Well, a scientific conference provide an opportunity to the young and old researchers to gather and share their research activities in the past, ongoing projects and find ways for future research. Especially, young researchers can benefit more by having a face to face interaction, since to meet the learned researchers in otherwise cases is not easy due to their busy schedules and research activities.
1) Continuous education refreshing knowledge 2) Polishing skills 3) Getting face to face with peers 4) Networking 5) Encouragement of our juniors 6) assess to new ideas
Several major benefits are gained from participation in scientific and academic conferences, and these benefits are as follow:
* Build distinct scientific and academic relations, and increase the cognitive awareness of the researcher.
* Review the scientific developments in the field of study and work of researcher.
* Increase the confidence of the researcher himself when he presented data to researchers working in the same field, and learn how to present data to them.
You get an opportunity to meet with the researcher in person whose paper or work you are following. Beside that you can discuss and can buildup collaboration to work together.
Expensive academic conferences give us old ideas and no new faces!!!
Those who manage to attend academic conferences expect many benefits. They hope to find their next collaborators. They hope to broaden their horizons to develop new research ideas. Conferences which mix practitioners with academics frequently also aspire to impact policies. This year’s world water week hopes to find novel hands-on solutions to waste water reduction and reuse.
However, our experience suggests that conferences usually do not deliver on these promises. There are always the same old faces, with a few more wrinkles every year, using obfuscating jargon to present the same old stuff. We’ve seen papers featured at conferences in recent years that could have easily come from the 1960s or 1970s. This not the research we think will deliver clean and safe water and improve sanitation for the millions who need it...
